I am Rebecca Bates, a licensed professional counselor working with women and adolescents. My approach as a counselor is to listen to your individual challenges and concerns while helping you to define unique goals for healing and growth.

People seek counseling most often when life isn’t working as well as it could. And this is true for a variety of reasons: Either we are burdened by the past or of feelings of shame and guilt, lack of inspiration or motivation, feeling angry or hopeless after experiencing trauma or loss, struggling with relationships or family life, or simply just wanting to know more about who we are and why we continue to be stuck in the same patterns. The therapeutic relationship can help. During our time together I will help you empower yourself by exploring new ways of thinking and interacting with others and the world around you. I employ a variety of techniques and methods to help you understand that you have the power to change and feel better.

Licensed in Georgia since 2003, I have been in the counseling profession since 2001. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Georgia, my Master of Science in Professional Counseling at Georgia State University, and my Specialist in Professional Counseling and Supervision from the University of West Georgia. My range of counseling experience is broad, including work at Athens Family Counseling, Inc, private practice, and as a school counselor in the Newton County School System.
